Anti-aging Natural Skin Care

Natural skin care seems to be what is in vogue right now. The reason for this is not far-fetched – the realization that conventional skin care products, though effective are chemical-laden and harmful to our health, as opposed to natural products which benefit our skin without harmful effects. An anti-aging natural skin care in the same vein offers you the benefits of a youthful skin without the hazardous effects of conventional products.

In order to be sure you are abiding by a natural skin care practice and using natural skin care products, this article will be of great benefit for you.

What is Natural Skin Care

Natural skin care is the use of topical creams and lotions sourced from nature. These natural substances in skin care include plant-derived ingredients such as herbs, roots, flower and essential oils, and animal-derived ingredients such as bee wax. These substances may be combined with various carrier agents, preservatives, surfactants, humectants and emulsifiers in the formulation of skin care products says wikipedia.org.

Anti-aging natural skin care, therefore, is the use of natural products containing ingredients that have anti-aging effects and can help prevent or reduce aging signs such as fine lines, wrinkles, dullness, and saggy skin.

History of Natural Skin Care

The practice of using plant extracts and herbs as cosmetics and perfumes have been in existence since ancient times. Dating back to about 6000 years ago, the Egyptians have used natural skin care ingredients for, not only beauty purposes but for other purposes, including burial traditions.

Similar to the Egyptians, the Greeks and Romans also used natural skin care to protects their skin from environmental aggressors. They used natural ingredients to treat a variety of skin conditions as well as to lighten their complexion, a practice which was even more common among the Chinese. As skin care moved to Europe and the Middle East, new ingredients and methods were invented and introduced.

This innovation gave rise to the production of cold creams, cleansers, and other skin care products, using natural ingredients but with the addition of some potentially harmful chemicals, including mineral alum and lead, intended for the treatment of skin problems like acne and scabs.

By the 1990s, discoveries were made of the benefits of substances like vitamins and hyaluronic acid to the skin. With the recognition of the benefits of these ingredients, skin care companies began to replace hormonal and steroidal ingredients with antioxidant and natural ingredients in their products.

Presently, a variety of skin care products for almost any beauty concern one can have are available including body washes, gels, lotions, exfoliants, toners, moisturizers, and sun protection. And with the focus now being mainly on helping the skin from the inside out, the FDA has helped to keep known toxic ingredients out of skin care products to a large extent though many still have side effects.

It is in a bid to avoid as much side effects as possible, and most of all, to avoid ingesting toxic chemical substances into the body through the skin, that emphasis is shifting to natural skin care which is devoid of side effects, harsh ingredients and one that affords superior results.

Benefits Of Natural Skin Care

The skin is the largest organ of the body. 60% to 70% of whatever we put on it gets absorbed into it. It is therefore important that we watch what we put on it.

A lot of conventional beauty and skin care products that are manufactured today contain carcinogens, pesticides endocrine disruptors and reproductive toxins. All of these harmful substances are absorbed into our system. Since it is important for us to take care of this vital organ in order for it to perform its functions effectively, there has to be a safer way, hence in comes Natural skin care.

Plant-based skin care products are just as effective ( If not more ) as conventional ones without side effects. Natural skin care products are less inflammatory. They assure you a longer and healthier life and an overall wellbeing. The benefits of using these products include more energy, better though clarity, better organ function, stronger resistance to disease, less toxicity and your risk of cancer, suffering hormone imbalance and immune compromise are lowered.

What To Lookout For in Natural Skin Care Products

Along with the awareness of the tendency of the skin absorbing harmful ingredients contained in skin care products and the consequent realization of the advantage of natural skin care products over conventional ones has come about the practice of items touting their “all natural ” ingredients. All kinds of phrases are used on their labels to achieve this.

To ensure a product is truly natural, you must read the label. With a little research and smart shopping, you can find responsibly-made products that help you maintain a beautiful complexion and live a healthy lifestyle

Here’s what to look for when purchasing skin care products:

  • Natural, Carefully Formulated Organic Ingredients
  • GMO-Free
  • Non-Allergenic
  • Free of Harmful Synthetic Chemicals or Known Irritants
  • Never Tested on Animals (Cruelty-Free, Leaping Bunny Certified)

As a matter of practice, ingredients contained in products are required by the FDA to be listed on the product label. The names of these ingredients can be quite confusing and hard to decipher sometimes. Plant-derived ingredients would usually be listed in their Latin name along with a common name (enclosed in parentheses) on the label.

If you are not sure of the ingredient, its benefit or safety, look it up by browsing it to see how safe or potentially harmful it is. A go-to site for this purpose is the Environmental Working Group’s (EWG) Skin Deep Database, it’s very useful for this purpose.

The Best Natural Skin Care Routine

So many skin care products with natural ingredients are available online and at drug stores. But as I mentioned earlier, there is sometimes the difficulty of understanding what the product does, its benefits and harmful effects. I had earlier suggested researching the ingredient as a way of going around the problem, which is quite okay.

Another alternative, however, which is also an easier and less expensive one is to make the products by yourself from ingredients around you. You will find that making them yourself is not as difficult as you would think as a lot of the times it may not involve measuring and mixing, yet they will afford you the same effects as the conventional ones.

Step 1- Cleansing

Honey, plant oil and lemon juice are good substances for cleansing of the skin. You may use honey alone or combine with lemon juice if you have oily skin

To use, pour a little honey on your palm. Rub it between your palms and massage into your face. Leave it on for a few minutes and wash off with warm water.

Cleansing your face with oil makes it soft and beautiful. Even those with oily skin can benefit from this method and that is the reason the oil cleansing method has become very popular over the years. Oil also serves as an excellent makeup remover

Substances which you can use for cleansing are not limited to these three. Oatmeal, grinded almond, yogurt are a few other examples

Step 2: Toning

For an even skin tone, the following list of natural ingredients can be very helpful;

Honey, lemon, cucumber and green tea all possess ingredients that make them very good for toning the skin. Honey has antibacterial properties that can help fade age spots and acne scars. The citric acid and antioxidant properties of lemon juice makes it good for your complexion.

Cucumber ensures that your skin is soft, supple and firm leaving your skin with an even and light tone same way as green tea helps your skin tone.

To use, dilute the lemon juice with some rose water (or plain water) or honey before applying it to your skin. Let it sit for some minutes and wash using warm water. You may also add cucumber juice to the mixture and apply to face for added benefit

Tone both morning and evening after cleansing

Step 3: Moisturizing

To use, apply the oil all over your body and massage for a minute or two to allow the oil to quickly absorb into the skin and not stain your clothes. Alternatively, you can leave it overnight and take a shower early the next day morning for fresh skin, or use it after taking a shower.

Moisturize both morning and evening

Step 4: Exfoliating

An all-natural exfoliants list would include Honey, Yogurt, sugar, Lemon juice, oil, and Papaya. You may apply honey alone or yogurt alone to slough off dead cells.

To use sugar for exfoliation, mix it with oil and apply on face. Leave it to sit for about 10 minutes ànd wash with warm water. You may also add lemon juice to this mixture for a lighter complexion or oily skin.

Exfoliation is to be done twice or three times a week.

Conclusion

Natural skin care is the way to go. Natural skin care products are effective and healthier and come with a lot of benefits. It is very easy to adopt as you can make some of the products yourself. Adopting an anti-aging skin care would no doubt be of immense benefit to you in several ways.
